Small moments make a day perfect and give us a change to celebrate whats right with the world.
I received a short video-clip about my grandson. Sitting on his daddy’s lap, holding the steering wheel while driving into their garage. He is 9 months old. His mom said “it is the highlight of his day.” 🙂
Or… was it his dad’s highlight, smiling and maneuvering the car and his excited son? Or was it his mom’s highlight holding the camera, capturing a golden moment. Or was it mine, receiving the whatsApp ?
Everyday I look for that special moments. A song, a sunset, a smile. What will make your day full of light? What can you do to lighten someone else path?
I have the privilege to go through this wonderful process all over again. Diamond is cutting his first tooth and his parents are very thrilled. On the picture you can see them searching for those treasures. His face shows some confusion. I think he wants to ask: “what are your finger doing on my gums?”
If you look real hard this picture will show the treasure. There are two of them. Such a proud moment.
There is another tooth story to tell from the other household. We got a message, “PUT ON YOUR SKYPE. Elsa (five years eight months) wants to show you something”. She smiled and wiggled her loose tooth. She stood so close in the Skype camera that we could feel the vibration. She also took an apple saying, “maybe this will work” – she took a big bite, looked at the apple and said, “nothing”. And now two weeks later her dad sent us, the grandparents, this this picture on WhatsApp. I would have loved to see the picture of the little face with the gap, but her daddy has a mind of his own.
Elsa was so exited about this tooth and the story of the tooth fairy that she made this two very artistic objects.
The fish is just for fun.
The piggy bank is for the tooth fairy >
This art really did something to the tooth fairy. She did not only drop some coins, she also added a letter that Elsa proudly showed to us during our follow up Skype session.
I say: “Thank you for technology and the tooth fairy – they create happiness.”
This little girl went to to the real school today. Her tie, dress, shoes and everything else were made ready for stepping over into the big school. She can already read and write, unlike us, her grandparents. How times have changed!! Today’s kids are being born clever and wise enough to handle all the electronic media that I am still getting used to.
She is also very committed to grow her hair “like Elsa from Frozen” When my husband and I mentioned her hair (via Skype) she pulled it to the side and proudly said “my hair is SUPER long”
We wish her a super school year, with super teachers, super friends, super learning and a super family to walk with her.
Today I posted my grandson’s birthday present. He will be turning three. That sounds so small, what does he know about life?
I know, when we Skype, he shouts my name the loudest.
I loved putting the present together. Fitting all the different things into the smallest box that will hold everything. I know they are waiting for the present on that side. There is something in it for everybody. I got advice and will try e-shopping next time and just send a card from this side to make it that little personal. What do you think?
Last year when they came to visit us, we celebrated the birthdays that we missed. My granddaughter had a princess party and we took lots of pictures. I made her a little story book on the event including all the pictures – capturing memories. This guy had a pirate party and we went on a dam with a ski-boat and his dad did some lovely skiing (and falling)
Maybe I should buy my own aeroplane. I would love to attend two upcoming events. Sunshine, he is turning 3 and Elsa (she loves FROZEN) and I shall call her by that name, is going to the “BIG” school on Sept 3.
Every time when it is a birthday on the other side of the world – I put together a present and I post it. The main person of the day gets the biggest present, but everybody else in the household also get something. Now the excitement is bigger. Everybody is waiting for the present!!. I love putting it together.
It is somewhat of a challenge though – the parcel MUST NOT BE TO HEAVY OR TO BIG.
For Elsa, the little scholar, I am sending some stickers to paste on her face or door when she feels she did something great at school.
I bought this beautiful reversible baby shoes for my grandson’s, baptism. I had to wash them, it was the only shoes in the shop and it was handled en turned to the “bike” side or the “white” side out by a lot of customers. As I took them from the washing line a thought comes from nowhere – show it to your mother. It was so strong and real that I walked excited towards the back door with the shoes in my hand. As I opened the door I suddenly realize, my mother is dead, loooong time ago. It never happened to me before, but in that view steps towards the door it felt immensely happy. I think from the heaven she did see me with the baby shoes. She and my daughter share the same name.
My granddaughter and I were sitting in the little garden opposite the parking area, drinking real tea from real cups. She was 3. There was a fly, annoying us, flying around our heads. I said :
come fly, sit down, we want to blow you.
She looked at me and smiled. She said: come fly, sit down we want to blow you. THE FLY LISTENED. She and I looked at each another, took deep breaths… and blew… Then she laughed, it started from somewhere in her tummy and ended in her shiny eyes.
I believe you had such an experience – a small, simple moment that you will remember forever.
